Abstract

Relevance. Learning English in the modern educational environment is an important and indispensable component in the process of training students. The issue of cultural education, which in fact becomes mandatory in the course of mastering a foreign language by older students, becomes particularly relevant.

Purpose. Based on this, the purpose of the article was to compare English language textbooks for senior high school students in Kyrgyzstan and China and conduct a quantitative analysis of cultural education through textbook evaluation.

Methodology. The research used methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, deduction, and content analysis.

Results. As a result, it was possible to establish that the cultural content of English language textbooks can be differentiated on the basis of their content, as well as design characteristics and the frequency of topics of cultural subjects. In addition, it has been proven that English language textbooks in Kyrgyzstan pay more attention to educational topics and content relevant to the specific country. In turn, English textbooks for Chinese senior high school students focus more on presenting the authentic context of the English language. It should be emphasized that English language textbooks in Kyrgyzstan tend to present national festivals and cultural themes to enhance awareness of the national knowledge system. The article also established that English language textbooks in China create a multicultural knowledge system aimed at enriching the representation of world culture and diversity.

Conclusions. The obtained results should be used during the development of new textbooks for teaching English language students in Kyrgyzstan.

Keywords: Chinese education; Kyrgyzstan education; cultural subjects; traditional culture; national strength
